Not Enough Time

Welcome to the CYCLE Youth Community!
Covey Youth Conferences for Leadership & Empowerment

A community for developing and uniting the next generation of principle-centered leaders
Be A Part of the Change this Week!
Each week, we challenge ourselves to do certain actions as one youth community but within our own circles of influence, in order to collectively bring about the change we want to see in this world.
This week, our challenge is TO MAKE TIME FOR OTHERS.
The next time someone asks for your time, we challenge you to put down what you're doing and share a bit of your time with someone else.  Or perhaps you'd like to volunteer for a cause that's close to your heart.
If you're already doing this, then go out of your comfort zone and really push yourself to reach your potential by spending time with the people or causes that irritate or challenge you the most.  Spend time with those you don't want to spend time with!  They just might show you what you need to learn.
Remember, be the change you want to see in this world.  You want more time?  Then give it!
(Do you have an inspiring story to tell?  Please email us your experiences in being a part of the change!)
I recently shared this story in one of our FOCUS Time Management workshops.
About two years ago, I was obsessed with productivity.  Being a new trainer for our company, I was full of bright ideas to help our team succeed.  I worked tirelessly - logging 12 hours in the office and even coming to work on weekends.  But in exchange, I would constantly hold back on choosing to spend quality time with my girlfriend.  I'd tell myself "I'll take care of my results first, and my results second, and my results third...then my relationships after".  And then I'd wonder why we spent so much time arguing!  If I just had the awareness to realize that taking care of the relationship actually saves time.
My ex-girlfriend always told me "There is no such thing as 'I don't have time for you.'  It's either important to you or it isn't."  I never fully understood that lesson until the same thing happened to me just recently.  We really do live with the consequences of our actions until we learn our lesson.
As youth, we sometimes forget the value of time - both for what it can do for us and for others.  Like a gambler in a casino, how many times have we said "Just a little more?"  Whether its work, gimmick, tv, internet surfing, or sleep, we've all thought about those seconds we can never get back.  Who are you neglecting?  Who do you need to spend more time with?
Starting today, stop saying "I don't have enough time."  It's either important to you or it isn't.  So what matters most to you?
All the best,
